A communication interface that allows WordPress to send and receive structured data using standard web requests. The block editor, WooCommerce, and many plugins depend on it for dynamic functionality. When the REST API is blocked by a security plugin or server firewall, features that depend on it fail silently. Loupely's connection between the Chrome extension and the WordPress plugin also runs through an authenticated REST API endpoint.
